AutoCAD Training Tip (Using GRIPs To Edit Objects)

Using GRIPs To Edit Objects

AutoCAD’s GRIPs provide object-specific editing tools that assist when modifying AutoCAD objects such as the rectangle shown.

Upon selection, any AutoCAD object displays its GRIPs. Any GRIP can be selected and made in to a “hot” GRIP (again, see the rectangle shown). Either the shortcut menu or the command line shows the GRIP edit tools.

The shortcut menu tools are shown and you can press the spacebar to toggle between the GRIP edit tools if you are using the command line. Just press the spacebar to move to the next edit tool.

The right hand mouse button context sensitive shortcut menu (known as the shortcut menu!) provides additional commands in AutoCAD when used if an object is selected (such as the rectangle shown).

The Erase, Move, Copy Selection, Scale and Rotate commands are on the shortcut menu if an object is selected as well as the new Isolate command that isolates the selected object in the drawing for easier editing.

This simple right click provides a quicker easier method of modifying AutoCAD objects in the drawing as well as providing other navigational tools such as Zoom and Pan

So, how can you get your manager to sponsor trainings that will make your CV shine?

First things first – know your facts.

What will your training mean to the bottom-line?

What is the return on investment?

Will your new skills help service more accounts or get new types of contracts?

Will they help speed up work or reduce team size significantly?

Second, timing is everything. Go when you know the budget cycles are close to allocation times – not after budgets for the year have been sewn up.
